the movie poster says ‘it’s time to get it straight’ but really, there were many moments in this film where i was looking at the screen very crooked.
let me state the positive first.
i really appreciate chris rock’s genuine interest in the self-image of his two little girls. i mean, it makes me really happy to see a good father. if we had more MEN that took the time to pay attention to their daughters, i am certain that it will create monumental changes in the collective self-esteem of black women period.
it is simply way too common for a black father to be estranged from his daughter, and then, for her to end up seeking out the same emotional unavailability when choosing a potential mate. ugh!
anywho. back to the movie. it touched on some very basic points about black hair and i know that the white people in the theater were thrilled to have learned the truth behind the ‘mystery’. me? not so much.
i would have appreciated having more natural women interviewed. the docu-comedy made it seem like there were only 2 types of hair that black women could have. an ‘afro’ or a weave.
????
i loved nia long and al sharpton but lauren london and melissa ford?????! really?? raven symone? :-/
where was erykah badu? [my eB], or as my homie ModelCitizen pointed out, where was ms. irie?? yes, INDIA …
????
again chris left me stranded in the middle of a lot of bitterness and not enough resolution/hope.
maybe there will be a part 2, maybe chris had to rush and make this film to make it to sundance in time. *shrug*

dear nasa,
i hate you. the moon didn’t do anything to you! what would possess you to attack it? i hope your plan gets intercepted by the good power force of the universe. i also hope i get to slap who ever signed off on this ‘mission’ and actually pressed the ‘approve’ button.
love, elbie.
ok i need to calm down but i wont. i mean who really does that?? who actually PLANS to bomb the MOON???? *blank stare*
have people really lost all sense and sensibility? are you serious right now???
if you don’t know what i am rambling about, read this article and get pissed off with me. yup, they are bombing the moon tomorrow [10.08.09] am at 7:30, and ‘they’ have definitely crossed the line in a whole new way. i’m talking, in a whole ‘nother freaking galaxy. needless to say i’m disgustedwithlife right now and ashamed that this kind of an arrogant superiority complex even exists on this magnitude. yuck.
i’m praying about this… i need this to not mess up the little balance we have left around here.
thaaaaanks.
in deep though while i say hi to my belly button ring
i looooove dr. sunyatta amen. she is a Naturopathic physician with a philosophy that focuses on a ’sexy and natural life through movement and healthy dietary choices.” i am gonna try a new product this month that was introduced to me by one of her facebook status updates. it’s called dr. bird bitters. she mentioned that using this product will assist in winding down a busy mind as well as calm nerves. i went looking for it and was bombarded with an array of natural herbal remedies for EVERYthing. and i mean eryyything. werk diva. i live for fly mommas that are even more FIERCE, internally. i have a link to the tonic below and under that is one of her [many] on-going segments on fox morning news. it’s the ONE thing that i ever will watch on fox. that is, of course, until ellen starts her gig on american idol. bloooooop!
